• Poles positive about first month of new government
  • 17.12.2007

A poll conducted by TNS OBOP for the Dziennik daily reveals that Poles are mainly positive about the first month of the new government.

Respondents like the foreign policy direction of the new cabinet and Tusk is still liked as PM, but in their opinion, the health service is the new government’s weakest area.

Respondents were asked, "How has Donald Tusk managed as prime minister?".  Dziennik reports that more than 70 per cent of respondents replied that he “has done well” or “rather well", while 13 per cent said "very poorly" or "poorly".

The poll also shows that the majority of ministers still remain unknown to their electorate.  Only those who have recently been in the media a lot are now recognised (one in three) with foreign minister Radosław Sikorski as a clear leader in the category.

Dziennik points out that the new justice minister Zbigniew Ćwiąkalski is also well recognised, even though the public had not known him at all before. His recognition is mainly as a result of the wave of criticism directed towards his decisions.

Only one in ten believe Ćwiąkalski is the best minister in Tusk’s cabinet.

The opinion poll was conducted for daily Dziennika by pollster TNS OBOP on a representative group of 1000 people on 15 December (mj).
