  • 18.12.2007

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraków issued an arrest warrant for Piotr Misztal, former Self-Defence MP.

Misztal is currently in the USA, allegedly to take care of his ailing mother, but claims that he will return to Poland on January 21. If he does, he will be arrested.

The Prosecutor’s Office wants to charge Misztal in connection with tax fraud to the amount of at least 2 million 218 thousand zloty to the detriment of the State Treasury.

The charges are in connection to leading a criminal gang, which in 2003-2006 dealt in forged invoices and committed tax fraud in Kraków, Łódź and other cities.

The Prosecutors wanted to charge Misztal a few weeks ago, but he had left for the USA. He was called to the Prosecutor’s Office twice, but failed to show up.

Misztal explained that his mother is undergoing chemotherapy and he wants to spend Christmas with her, that he informed the Prosecutor’s Office about the situation and delivered his mother’s health records.

Misztal was one of the richest MPs in the previous parliament, famous for his extravagance. After a few months in parliament, he stepped out of Self-Defence. (mo)
