There is no Law and Justice (PiS) on the City Council in Gdynia – two of its members, Grzegorz Bonk and Andrzej Denis, stepped out of the party in protest against the way it is managed.
In an open letter to the TVN24 news channel, they explained their decision, writing that all differing opinions within the party are being fought down. The council members added that they wanted to change Poland by being in Law and Justice, a party that used to united different right-wing movements, but is not doing so any more.
The council members called their decision a “sign of support” for the members who were treated unfairly by the party, such as Kazimierz Ujazdowski and Paweł Zalewski, but also a protest against the fact that Law and Justice has no place for outstanding politicians such as Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Radosław Sikorski.
The former members also wrote that they cannot agree to the fact that there is practically no democratic election of the Law and Justice district authorities.
“We hope that our decision and similar ones made by other members in Poland will make the PiS leaders think,” wrote the two former members. (mo)
