“The Polish left have no idea about their future and thus their attacks on the Church”, former Polish president Lech Wałęsa writes on the Internet portal Wirtualna Polska.
Wałęsa makes reference to recent accusations made by MP Joanna Senyszyn from the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) on her blog that the Polish Catholic Church wants to “milk” the state budget in order to fund the construction of the Church of Divine Providence in Warsaw.
Former president blames SLD politicians of declaring political war on the Church in Poland, as they have nothing substantial to offer their voters.
"They know from experience that in the situation of a conceptual void red herrings come in handy. For today, they have come up with the idea of criticising the Church, and previously it was the IVF treatment, which was also reduced to the criticism of the Church", Wałęsa writes.
The former president and legendary Solidarity leader does not spell a great success for the left wing parties on the Polish political scene either.
"If the Polish left boast the same leaders as today, I’m not concerned about their future. They can be sure that their following will oscillate between 5 and 10 per cent”, Lech Wałęsa writes on Wirtualna Polska portal. (mj)
