• Culture minister: Polish public media too politicised
  • 10.01.2008

Minister of culture Bogdan Zdrojewski (Civic Platform - PO) believes that the Polish public media has been too politicised for the past ten years.

Zdrojewski told Polish Radio 1 Thursday morning that depoliticising of the media in Poland would mainly depend on the implementation of amendments to the media law proposed by the Civic Platform.

The amended media law assumes new procedures for the appointment of members of the management boards and supervisory boards of the state-owned Polish Radio and Polish Television.

In the opinion of culture minister, the new solutions proposed in the amended act would ensure that new management and supervisory board appointees would be experts generally respected by journalistic circles rather than purely political candidates.

Bogdan Zdrojewski called the Law and Justice’s allegations towards Civic Platform of their attempts to strengthen their influence on the public media “groundless” and criticised the opinion expressed by the former PM Jarosław Kaczyński (PiS) that PO was trying to take over the public media in Poland “in the Russian fashion”.
