Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he was disappointed after the Cabinet Council meeting regarding the crisis in Polish health care. The meeting lasted 45 minutes and yielded no results.

At a press conference after the meeting Tusk said President Kaczynski did not display the necessary amount of patience to discuss government plans for amending the crisis situation in the health service, which has been rocked by disputes over pay and working conditions.

The PM said the president did not come up with any counterproposals.

Tusk expressed his concern about the unsatisfactory meeting, but declared that the cabinet is ready to discuss health care with different political forces and social organizations.

Moreover, Tusk added that the only contribution from the President’s side was his declaration to veto the bill on voluntary health insurance.

According to Tusk, the bill, if passed, could improve the financing of health care without burdening citizens with higher taxes.

Tusk concluded in announcing a “white summit”, as the colour is associated with health care in Poland, in which both representatives of the government and of medical organizations will participate. (mn) (photo by Jakub Szymczuk)
