• Polish government wants customs conflict resolution
  • 28.01.2008

Head of the ruling Civic Platform party Zbigniew Chlebowski has stated that the government is to resolve issues with customs officers over working conditions.

Premier Donald Tusk is in Biała Podlaska today for talks with the customs officers, although he has said that he “cannot force them to go back to work”, as reported by newspaper portal dziennik.pl.

Chlebowski stated that the Ministry of Finance had prepared a special package for the customs officers, who are demanding a PLN 1500 pay rise. The party head also said that the last government is responsible for the ongoing protests.

The Law and Justice government changed regulations on national treasury administration, which according to the Civic Platform chief practically closed down customs operations in the country.

Civic Platform’s Chlebowski is asking employees who receive their wages from the budget to hold back from protesting about wages, as the national budget does not have any reserve finances to increase pay during 2008. (jb)
