• One in ten Poles would vote Marcinkiewicz
  • 27.02.2008

If former Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz decided to establish his own party, he could count on the support of 11 percent of Poles, says a poll by GfK Polonia.

The presence of a new party on the Polish political scene would harm the ruling center right Civic Platform (PO) most. One in four of its supporters would be more partial to Marcinkiewicz's party, if it were to be established.

In a statement made yesterday, the former prime minister hinted at the possibility of coming back to Poland and creating his own party.

However, other politicians do not treat these declarations seriously, deeming them a means of receiving more media coverage.

"Marcinkiewicz cannot possibly be taken seriously, when one realizes that nothing actually comes out of his ceaseless declarations, [on the subject],’  says one irritated Law and Justice member, quoted by Rzeczpospolita. (mn)
