Prime Minister Donald Tusk thinks that the presidential election campaign might negatively influence the Polish presidency in the EU.
Polish presidency in the EU is to start in July 2011 and last till the end of the year, while the presidential election is due to take place in October the same year.
Donald Tusk admitted that the campaign could hamper the task of leading EU works. Therefore, Tusk is of the conviction that the election should be postponed, but the decision to do so should result from a universal consensus.
"This is a delicate matter. I would like to consult the president and heads of parliamentary clubs on the best possible date of elections. This should be our joint decision", said Tusk, quoted by Informacyjna Agencja Radiowa (IAR).
At the same time Tusk assured that he is in constant contact with the politicians from countries which already presided over the EU. He added, that preparing for the presidency is an extremely challenging task. (mn)
