• Polish Archbishop on Lisbon Treaty row
  • 18.03.2008

One of Poland’s most senior members of the Catholic Church has called for consensus over ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, currently being debated in parliament.

Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz has said that there are moments in life when one must rise above party interests and think about Poland.

"I think that such a moment is now," the archbishop commented on the row on the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty Lisbon at a press conference today.

He thus referred to the yesterday's televised address to the nation by President Lech Kaczynski, in which the latter talked about the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

The archbishop reminded that the late Pope John Paul II and the Conference of the Polish Episcopate have already expressed their opinion on Poland belonging to the European Union.
