• Polish opposition denies split over Lisbon Treaty
  • 20.03.2008

MPs from Poland’s largest opposition party, Law and Justice, deny there is any split over the issue.

The young MPs from Law and Justice (PiS) who, according to the Wprost weekly, have declared that they would vote in favour of the Lisbon Treaty in spite of having to break with party discipline (see here), mow say they intend to vote according to their party's stance.

Adam Hofman, one of the MPs from the alleged rebel group, said that Civic Platform (PO) cannot count on the support of PiS MPs to pass the bill.

He also added that an internal discussion among PiS members is still in progress, but that they will remain unanimous during the vote.

According to Hofman, the information given by Wprost on its webpage on Wednesday were statements from PiS MPs taken out of context. (mo)
