The Public Prosecutor is to investigate if the Central Anticorruption Bureau has tried to illegally recruit journalists.
The District Public Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw is conducting preliminary proceedings on whether the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) recruited journalists, the spokesperson for the office, Renata Mazur, told the Polish Press Agency.
The office will decide if an official investigation is in order. The preliminary proceedings should theoretically take 30 days, but might be prolonged.
The Gazeta Wyborcza daily wrote in April that the CBA might have contacted Patrycja Kotecka, the deputy head of information in the TVP national television, although the law on CBA forbids the officers to recruit journalists. According to the daily, Kotecka informed the CBA about possible instances of corruption in TVP.
After the article was published, Tomasz Fratczak, the director of the office of CBA's head, informed that the CBA had conducted an inspection in TVP, but it was in no way connected to the journalist in question. (mo)
