• Cabinet reshuffle soon?
  • 21.06.2008

The ruling coalition has lately been frequently mentioning a possible cabinet reshuffle to replace the poorly performing ministers.

Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration and Deputy Prime MInister Grzegorz Schetyna said in a radio interview that soon PM Tusk would evaluate the performance and achievements of all his ministers, stipulating at the same, that it did not translate into an automatic reshuffle.

A Civic Platform (PO) meeting with all the ministers was scheduled as early as before the summer recess, reports Rzeczpospolita daily. However, most PO politicians do not believe in an imminent reshuffle.

"Maybe somebody will have to be dismissed in autumn, if the cabinet loses support. But unless there is a sharp drop in popularity ratings, a reshuffle makes hardly any sense. It is mentioned frequently to create a motivating atmosphere", said one of the party's officials.

Others say that the changes are hard to predict because they will be determined by PM Tusk exclusively.

The media have long speculated about the ministers to be dismissed and the list of names includes that of Cezary Grabarczyk, infrastructure minister, Ewa Kopacz, health minister, Katarzyna Hall, education minister, and Barbara Kudrycka, science and higher education minister. (mn)
