Aleksander Kwasniewski has been voted the best Polish President in the last 18 years.
A majority of respondents to an opinion poll by CBOS say that Aleksander Kwasniewski was a better President than Lech Walesa and Lech Kaczynski, informs Puls Biznesu daily.
The poll assessed the two former and the current Polish Presidents in seven categories. Kwasniewski won five of them.
Sixty four per cent said Kwasniewski represented Poland’s interests abroad the best out of the three Presidents since the democratic changes in 1989. Only 14 per cent were of the opposite opinion.
In the view of 58 per cent, Kwasniewski was the best communicator with society. He also won in the “activity on the political scene” category (according to 55 per cent), “efficiency” (51 per cent) and “competence” (50 per cent).
Respondents to the CBOS opinion poll were the least impressed by Kwasniewski’s social sensitivity (27 per cent) and personal integrity (23 per cent support).
The opinion poll was conducted on a representative group of 1107 adults between June 6 and 9.
Aleksander Kwasniewski served as the President of Poland for two terms from 1995 to 2005. He was Sports Minister in the last Communist government in Poland in the 1980s. After the democratic changes in Poland in 1989, he became the leader of the left-wing Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland (SdRP), successor to the former ruling Polish United Workers Party (PZPR), and a cofounder of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD).
