Forty nine percent of Poles are pessimists about the political direction the country is heading in.
According to a poll by the CBOS Institute, only thirty six percent of the respondents describe themselves as optimists - with a growing number feeling the political situation is turning
Over the last month, there are almost 10 percent more pessimists as regards the political situation in Poland, whereas there has been only a slight drop in the optimism index as far as the economic situation.
In another poll by the same institute, fifty two percent of Poles think that the President should sign the Lisbon Treaty. Fourteen percent of the respondents are of a different opinion. Support for the continuation of the ratification process fell by three percentage points over the last month, while the number of people who are against the ratification grew by six percent.
In a press interview three weeks ago, President Lech Kaczynski said he would not sign the treaty at this moment because the Irish rejection made it ‘pointless’.
Last Monday, he assured French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris that Poland would not be an obstacle in the ratification process.
