• Kwasniewski could be president again?
  • 06.10.2008

According to a weekly magazine, the Polish Constitution is so vaguely written that former president Aleksander Kwasniewski could run for a third term as president.

The 1997 Constitution would not allow Kwasniewski to run as a candidate for president for a third term, after winning two elections in 1995 and 2000.

But the Polish weekly magazine Wprost claims that the legal language of the constitution allows for some interpretation. The weekly claims that, in 2010, Kwasniewski could run for a third term as Poland’s president.

And support in the country for a third term for Kwasniewski exists among the electorate. If Poland were to elect a president next Sunday, the current Prime Minister Donald Tusk and twice elected former-President Aleksander Kwasniewski would be top contenders, says a new poll.

According to the poll by Pentor, Tusk would win 26.8 percent of votes, Kwasniewski 18.1 percent of votes, and current president, Lech Kaczynski, would win only 15.6 percent.

The poll was taken from a sample of 800. (mmj)
