Women dressed in period costume entered the Polish parliament building today in remembrance of universal suffrage being introduced to Poland 90 years ago.
A series of lecturers and performances are underway in the capital to celebrate women being given the vote in Poland. The women confronted MPs with umbrellas, just as they did 90 years ago directly after the end of WW I and Poland regaining its independence.
After winning the vote in 1918 the first woman to be elected to parliament was Roza Pomerantz-Meltzer elected to the Sejm in 1919 as a member of a Zionist party.
