Leader of the opposition Law and Justice party Jaroslaw Kaczynski told Polish Radio One this morning that the possible parliamentary coalition between ruling Civic Platform (PO), Polish Peasants’ Party (PSL) and the left-wing opposition Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) would preserve the dysfunction of the Polish political system.
Yesterday Bronislaw Komorowski of the ruling Civic Platform declared that his party is likely to have no other choice than to form a parliamentary alliance with the leftist Democratic Left Alliance if President Kaczynski continues veto governmental bills.
Kaczynski said that the political scene in Poland could be divided into two parts. “On one side are those who strive to sustain the hitherto prevailing system, the establishment and situation in the judiciary, on the other side are those who want to change things – and that’s us,” said the Law and Justice leader.
Kaczynski stressed that SLD in particular doesn’t want to change anything. “[the post-communist] SLD is the architect of the current system,” he added. (jm)
