• Smart phone explosion expected in Poland
  • 08.02.2011

The sale of smart phones in Poland has increased and is estimated to exceed four million this year.

In 2011, half a billion people around the world will buy smart phones, twice more than in last year, shows a report by Gartner and IDC.

In Poland, where 10 million mobile phones are sold every year, the sale of smart phones is estimated to be 3-4 million this year.

Nokia and Samsung, the major mobile phone producers operating in Poland count on high profits from smart phone sales. “In 2011, mobile phone market will become a smart phone market because smart phones will be more affordable,” says Wojciech Wasilewski, marketing director at Samsung Polska.

In 2010, the cheapest smart phones cost about 170-200 USD and the most expensive ones over 500 USD. Smart phone producers announce, however, that this year the price of their products will go down to 100 USD thanks to cheaper parts.

So far smart phone producers had to buy GPS or processor from different distributors but soon they will be able to buy the so-called main boards with all necessary functions, compatible with Android system. (mg)
