• EU presidency and Euro 2012 boon for luxury hotels?
  • 12.05.2011

Hotelier specialists are predicting the rise of luxury hotels in Poland thanks to the forthcoming EU Council Presidency as well as next year’s Euro 2012 football championships.

Currently there are 2,000 hotels in Poland, 2.2 percent of which hold a 5-star rating, up to five times fewer than in Western Europe.

The Polish Tourist Organisation has set aside 50 million zloty (12.5 million euro) for promotion ahead of the EU presidency and Euro 2012, with advertising chiefly aimed at business travellers.

It is rumoured that Starwood Hotels & Resorts will be the first to start investments in Poland as a result of the upcoming events, with others billed to follow suit, such as Kempinsky and Four Seasons.

Domestic hotel chains are also set to cash in on the growth in luxury hotels, such as Likus Hotels & Restaurants as well as Donimirski Boutique Hotels. (jb)
