Over 50 percent of computer software found on Polish computers is illegal, a report commissioned by the Business Software Alliance shows.

The report published by BSA, a trade group which protects the interests of global software manufacturers, found that pirate software in Poland accounted to 54 percent of all computer programmes.

Only four other countries in the EU had worse records – Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, and Latvia.
Spokesman for BSA, Bartlomiej Witucki told Polish Radio that even though the level of software piracy in Poland has dropped over the past few years, last year it levelled off.

By comparison, illegal software globally amounts to 42 percent on average, while in the EU that number stands at 35 percent. “The gap is huge,” Witucki said, commenting on the figures in relation to Poland’s. (jb)
