• First electric cars delivered to Poland
  • 10.02.2011
The first delivery of mass-made electric cars is expected to arrive in Poland this week, although a high price tag may hamper sales, media reports.

According to the Rzeczpospolita daily, four Mitsubishi i-MiEV units are to be delivered this week to the Fortum energy company, with a further 20 to an unnamed client in Warsaw next week.

The eco-friendly car comes at a price, costing over 160,000 zloty (41,000 euro), while in Germany the same model costs 5,000 euro less.

However, Mitsubishi hopes to sell 100 such electric cars by the end of the year, and already has orders for more deliveries.

A contender to Mistubishi’s i-MiEV units will be the Peugeot iOn, which is set to be made available on the Polish market in April, and will be primarily geared towards large clients looking to replace their vehicle fleets, Rzeczpospolita notes.

Other electric cars which may soon enter the Polish vehicle market include the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Volt. (jb)
