No more fast cars for Bond?
A new media bill currently deliberated in Parliament may outlaw product placement in films and shows broadcast on Polish television.

Film dialogues will also be banned from including banter about an explicit product if the bill gets rubberstamped by MPs.

The move may mean that films such as those from the James Bond franchise, which rely heavily on product placement for items such as cars, watches, cosmetics or alcoholic beverages, may have to be canned to keep in line with the new regulations.

However, scripted product placement will be allowed only if a special graphic symbol appears simultaneously on the screen denoting that the text is in fact an advertisement.

Law-makers are struggling to draw up the bill, which may allow for foreign-made films to be aired ‘as is’ without any additional graphic symbols denoting advertisements. (jb)
