• Fishermen get compensated for Nord Stream pipeline disruption
  • 10.02.2011

Nordstream AG, the company building a gas pipeline to link Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea, is ready to pay compensation to Polish fishermen ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 euro.

The terms are being negotiated with two fishermen’s organizations from the Baltic port city of Wladyslawowo. Fishermen will be compensated if their activity usually takes place near where the pipeline is being constructed.

“After intensive talks with Polish fishery organizations, we could now finalize the set of agreements with fishery organizations around the Baltic Sea," says Nord Stream Director Dirk von Ameln.

The actual amount of compensation hinges mainly on the length of the boat fishermen are using. (kk)
