Around half of businesses in Poland included in a new survey report that they are in a “very poor financial position”.

The survey by D&B Poland analyzed 270,000 enterprises with 54 percent found to be in a perilous position.

The situation is worst in the construction industry, which has been hit hard by a cut back in investment.

Problems are also reported in 73 percent of clothing manufacturers and food producers and chemical manufacturers also report difficulties.

Businesses reported that the rise in VAT in January this year means that 20111 will continue to be difficult. (pg)
