Poland’s Foreign Ministry believes that "from a security standpoint" it is possible to resume package holiday trips to the Egyptian tourist resorts on the Red Sea.

The ministry said in a statement Monday morning that it still advises against travel to major urban centers such as Cairo, Alexandria and Suez, however.

Last week, Egyptian authorities announced that they will be reopening main tourist sites such as the great pyramids, which have been shut since unrest broke out and culminating in the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule.

The Egyptian revolution has cost the economy more than six billion Egyptian pounds (1 billion USD) in losses to the manufacturing, construction and tourism sectors. according to the government’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). (pg)
