British retail giant Tesco is set to purchase Poland's Zabka chain from Penta Investments.

The acquisition of Zabka would be mark considerable inroads into the Polish market for the British firm. Zabka currently boasts some 2350 convenience stores across the country, reports Puls Biznesu daily.

No precise details have emerged about the cost of the current sale.

“Negotiations are still ongoing and we will not comment,” said the managing director of Penta Investments, Jozef Janov

In December 2010, Tesco bought up Penta's Czech Zabka network, thus the Polish purchase appears a logical step. (nh)
