• LOT shares released on Warsaw bourse?
  • 02.03.2011

Media reports that the State Treasury is deliberating the release of a share package on the Warsaw Stock Exchange of LOT Polish Airlines in a bid to privatise the national carrier.

Wednesday’s Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes that Morgan Stanley, a consultancy firm advising the State Treasury on the carrier’s eventual sale, is currently taking into account a number of options as to investment in LOT from the financial sector or from other airlines.

“We need another two weeks for the final privatisation plan,” spokesman for the State Treasury, Maciej Wewior told the daily.

Deputy Treasury Minister in charge of LOT’s privatisation, Zdzislaw Gawlik, mused that a strategic investor for the carrier may be announced at the end of Q2 2011, adding that four companies are interested in the takeover.

Although Gawlik declined to mention any company names, it is known that Lufthansa, Air France or KLM, British Airways and Turkish Airlines have all set their sights to a lesser or greater degree on the Polish carrier. (jb)
