• Opposition party demands dismissal of Agriculture Minister
  • 04.03.2011

The major opposition Law and Justice party has filed for a no-confidence vote against Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki, accused of what the party sees as a worsening situation in both rural Poland as well as agriculutural markets.

“In Poland and the EU, Minister Sawicki is not capable of sorting anything out,” the Law and Justice head, Jaroslaw Kaczynski told the TVP public broadcaster, slamming the minister and the Civic Platform government for not fulfilling their election promises.

“Budget expenditure for rural areas is falling, which [is having a] negative effect on income from [these regions],” Kaczynski stated, warning that Polish agiculture may find itself in a position whereby it could not compete with other countries.

However, Sawicki retorted by saying “I want to thank Law and Justice that after a complete lack of interest in rural affairs over the past three years they have become interested in them,” adding that parliamentary debate rather than a vote of no confidence would have been a better formula.
