• Poles to become wine-loving nation?
  • 07.03.2011

Poles are expected to spend up to 10 percent more on wine in 2011 than last year, with sales expected to reach up to 4 billion zloty (1 billion euro) within five years.

Better sales figures have been noticed in the wine sector since Q4 2010, although an economic slow-down was felt throughout the sector during the year.

However, Poles’ spending on wine, excluding expenditure within the hospitality sector, rose by 3.8 percent to reach 1.8 billion zloty (450 million euro) in 2010. The figures show growth of 1.4 percent, and amount to 100 million litres of wine.

Growth in the wine sector is expected to continue in Poland, as Euromonitor statistics show that the average Pole drank 7.1 litres of wine in 2010, while the average Italian and German drank around 42 and 26 litres respectively. (jb)
