Red Bull, the chief sponsor of Adam Malysz, Poland’s legendary ski-jumper who announced his retirement at the end of this season, made a reported 90.5 million zloty (23 million euro) over the ten years of cooperation.

Red Bull first started cooperation with Malysz in 2001 after he won the Four Hills Tournament. The first deal was signed then for 9.4 million zloty.

A record sponsorship deal was reached in 2003, amounting to 18.2 million zloty. By comparison, last year’s Red Bull sponsorship deal with the top ski-jumper amounted to 12.3 million zloty.

“90.5 million zloty is the equivalent of an advertising campaign lasting several years on a wide-reaching TV station,” Michal Gradzik, a research manager from Pentagon Research told Polish Radio.

Among the other companies riding on Malysz’s success were mobile network Idea (currently Orange), Audi, Poczta Polska, as well as refiners Lotos and tea producers Teekanne. (jb)
