• Plus mobile operator to stay in Polish hands?
  • 10.03.2011

Owner of satellite TV operator Polsat, Zygmunt Solorz-Zak has openly declared that Polkomtel, which owns Plus mobile and which is currently up for sale, should remain as Polish capital.

According to Solorz-Zak, the telecommunications market is one of Poland’s key strategic sectors, much like the energy sector, and as such should remain under the control of the State.

Apart from Solorz’s offer, the Swedish TeliaSonera group is reported to be one of the highest bidders in line to take over Polkomtel.

The comment comes as currently all other telecom companies in Poland are in part control of foreign capital, including former state operator Telekomunikacja Polska, which is owned by France Telecom.

Currently majority shares in Polkomtel are held by companies owned by the State Treasury, including KGHM, refiners PKN Orlen, PGE and Weglokoks. (jb)
