  • 06.04.2011

European Commission has sent a final warning to Poland to speed up including its aviation sector in the EU’s emission’s trading system.

The EC warned Poland, Cyprus, Estonia and Germany Wednesday to include aviation in national legislation on the Emissions Trading Scheme's (ETS)  - which began in 2005 - otherwise Poland could face financial penalties, a measure put in place by the Lisbon Treaty.

Aviation will be part of the ETS, a cap-and-trade system to reduce CO2 emissions in Europe. The allowances to be issued each year represents a reduction target of minus 3 percent in 2012 and minus 5 percent from 2013 onwards. (pg)
