• Sugar prices out of control?
  • 07.04.2011

The Office for Consumer Protection has announced that it will not control the retail price of sugar, as it has deemed that such measures do not lie within its competences.

The move comes after the Office for Consumer Protection (UOKiK) started an investigation, commissioned by Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki, into why the prices of sugar in Poland had gone up so rapidly.

However, the head of UOKiK, Malgorzata Krasnodebska-Tomkiel has said that there will be no more on-the-spot checks, although a team which is to monitor food prices will continue its work.

Asked on the investigation on rising sugar prices, Krasnodebska-Tomkiel stated that work began under two weeks ago, so it is still too early for any results. (jb)
