• Poland’s shale gas reserves eleventh largest globally
  • 08.04.2011
A new report published in Washington by the Energy Information Administration has revealed that Poland’s shale gas reserves amount to 5.3 billion cubic metres.

The report lists 32 countries which have the richest shale gas resources following research undertaken there.

China, the USA and Argentina were found to have the highest reserves, respectively, of shale gas.

Poland was found to have the largest shale gas resources in Europe, overtaking France by merely a few cubic metres, while Norway and Ukraine have 2.4 and 4 times less shale gas than Poland respectively.

“Realising the potential for unconventional natural gas to support its declining conventional gas production, the Polish government has shown strong support for shale gas drilling,” the report states.

“[The Polish government] has put into place very attractive fiscal terms for gas development, although infrastructure and regulatory issues remain as barriers to efficient development,” the EIA report concludes. (jb)
