• Polish sponsor wanted for national stadium
  • 12.04.2011

More than a half of Polish football fans think that a Polish company or institution should become a sponsor of the National Stadium in Warsaw, shows a survey by ARC, and not a huge sportswear giant such as Adidas.

The authorities of the National Stadium in Warsaw, which will host Euro 2012, are looking for a sponsoring company which will acquire naming rights for the stadium for ten years.

A survey conducted by ARC shows that in general Polish football fans prefer Polish companies to become National Stadium sponsors but when asked to name specific brands they also mention international corporations.  The most desired sponsor turned out to be Adidas with 27 percent of votes. Next follows Warsaw City supported by 25 percent of respondents, Coca-Cola with 19 percent of votes, PKN Orlen, Polish major oil and gas company, with 16 percent and PKO BP, one of Poland’s largest banks, with 15 percent of votes.

The survey also showed that Poles are afraid that Poland might face organizational problems during Euro 2012, especially with regards to transportation. They also fear that the Polish national team might not do well at the championship and that Polish hooligans will start street and stadium fights during Euro 2012.

The survey was conducted between 4 and 6 April among 507 football fans above 15 years old and comes after a Facebook protest led to Adidas discontinuing paint over graffiti on a race track in Warsaw. (mg)
