A washing machine and a mobile phone are the most desired commodities in Poland, shows a survey by CBOS.


As many as 92 percent of Poles own an automatic washing machine and 86 percent a mobile phone.

Among those who do not have them are pensioners, inhabitants of villages and people with lower education who earn little.

In 66 percent of Polish households there is at least one car and in 19 percent two vehicles. Car owners are usually people between 25 and 44 years old, quite well-off.

The poll also shows that 53 percent of Poles, mainly inhabitants of larger cities, have a computer and 35 percent a laptop; 63 percent of respondents have access to the internet, mainly people between 18 and 24 years old and professionals.

As many as 52 percent of Poles own a digital camera, 42 percent an LCD TV , 18 percent a dish washer and 12 percent a summer house.

The survey was conducted between 3 and 9 March 2011 among 950 people. (mg/pg)
