• Treasury and finance ministers survive parliamentary vote
  • 28.04.2011

Two no-confidence motions set to the parliamentary ballot, Thursday, have failed to oust both the finance and treasury ministers, Jacek Rostowski and Aleksander Grad respectively.

The leftist SLD party had filed for the dismissal of Rostowski (pictured right), while the major opposition Law and Justice party called for the dismissal for Minister Grad.

The no-confidence motion for Jacek Rostowski was overruled, with only 194 parliamentarians voting for the motion. 254 votes were against the Finance Minister’s dismissal.

Meanwhile, Aleksander Grad will also keep his position, as the motion to dismiss him as treasury minister was overruled by a majority of 243 to 191 votes cast.

Earlier, the SLD motion stated that “Minister Rostowski has played the politician, who at all costs wants to avoid the challenges confronting him. The cost of the recovery from the finance crisis and the costs of his own mistakes have been shifted on to the shoulders of the poorest, with full protection for the most well off.” (jb)
