• Parties promising flat tax after election
  • 29.04.2011
Three of Poland’s political parties will be offering a flat tax as part of their manifestoes in autumn’s general election, writes a Polish daily.

Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes that the governing centre-right Civic Platform, its junior coalition partner, the Polish Peasant’s Party (PSL) and the small Poland Comes First (PJN)  - a breakaway group from the Law and Justice (PiS) party - will be arguing for a flat tax. Only PJN has given specifics, however, saying the income tax rate should 19 percent across the board.

All patties are also saying that reducing government debt is also a priority, so workers should not expect a reduced flat tax rate to be introduced anytime soon.

Civic Platform muted the idea of a 20 percent flat tax rate before the election, which they won, in 2007 - but that policy failed to materialise.

Dziennik Gazeta Prawna also reminds of the fact that 98 percent of employees already pay the same rate at present - applicable for all workers earning les than 85 528 zł per year (21,000 euros). (pg)
