My other car is a Skoda...

New car sales in Poland have dropped by almost six percent since the beginning of the year, a new report from the automotive Samar institute reveals.

The report finds that the number of new cars in registered Poland in the period of 1 January to the end of April amounted to 90,671, which equates to a drop of 5.57 percent year-on-year.

The leader on the Polish market remains Czech manufacturer Skoda, which has sold 10,833 units since the beginning of 2011, although their sales also dropped 4.67 percent year-on-year. Skoda currently holds 11.88 percent of the market share in Poland, however.

German car manufacturers Opel came in second place, with 7,500 new registrations in Poland, a 0.37 percent rise year-on-year. While the company holds 8.23 percent of the Polish market, Japanese manufacturer Toyota took third place with 8.14 percent of the market with 7,420 units sold.

Meanwhile, the report finds that 59,767 used cars were registered in Poland during the first four months of the year, with almost half of them, 47.78 percent, over ten years old. The majority of used cars imported to Poland remain Volkswagens. (jb)
