• Winds of change for energy production in Poland
  • 10.05.2011

According to the European Wind Energy Association, Poland is one of the most promising markets for the construction of wind farms.

In 2011, investments worth 3 billion zloty (800 million euro) have created wind farms with an accumulated power output of over 500 MW. By comparison, coal-fired power plants have an output of 800-1000 MW.

Foreign companies are mainly involved with wind farm construction due to previous experience in other countries, as well as the capital needed to finance the investments. EU subsidies are also available for wind farm construction.

Energy concerns are also keen to develop wind farms as they lower CO2 emissions. An additional factor is that thanks to energy certificates, power companies which harness green energy can earn up to twice the amount per kW/hour than their fossil fuelled counterparts. (jb)
