Polish President Lech Kaczyński and Prime Minister Donald Tusk spoke with one voice of success at the close of the EU summit in Brussels.

PM Tusk said that Poland had managed to convince member states to its position because Warsaw’s postulates were close to the EU’s. Poland will be receiving more than 300 million euro for energy related projects, and has also won the acceptance of 600 million euros for the Eastern Partnership. PM Tusk said this could be a source of satisfaction for the Polish delegation, and that Warsaw had gained the opinion of an effective negotiator.

The Polish Premier also spoke of agreement on issues of financing efforts to counter climate change, such as support for poor countries in Asia and Africa. Warsaw is against the proposal for those countries with most gas emissions to pay most towards supporting the poorest countries and intends to veto EU decisions it will view as unfavourable.
