A naval training exercise is beginning on the Baltic Sea with the participation of the Polish frigate ORP "General Pułaski".

The exercise tackles the potential dangers faced by vessels on seas in the contemporary world, such as terrorism and piracy, and is being held in the strategically important but difficult waters of the Baltic Sea straits, said Captain Grzegorz Łyko:

The Baltic Straits have many narrow passages and difficult places to navigate, which could be used by all sorts of extremist paramilitary or terrorist organizations wanting to paralyze traffic on the sea.

The Baltic is a busy and important shipping route with around three thousand vessels sailing here every day. The naval exercise, which is organized by Denmark, will continue until April 4th.
