A macabre ending to a domestic quarrel in the suburbs of Kraków: after a row with his girlfriend, the man took out a hand-grenade and detonated it.

The woman managed to escape from the house with her 10-year-old son, but her partner was killed on the spot.

Police are now checking where the victim had got the grenade and whether he had been sober at the time of the tragedy.
