  • 27.03.2009

Volunteers in shops and supermarkets across the country will be collecting food products for the needy over the weekend.

Małgorzata Leonkiewicz, head of the Food Bank Federation in Poland, has stressed that the charity event is a token of solidarity with the underprivileged.

Meanwhile, the traditional action will be replaced with an Easter collection of eggs, taking place at several of the capital’s churches on Palm Sunday.

Małgorzata Lelonkiewicz: "This is yet another in a series of food collections in Warsaw, and the organiser of the action, the S.O.S. Food Bank Foundation, started off with two then four churches, and is now being held at 16 of them. The charity has become very popular, and is seen as a symbol of Easter, and solidarity among people, and so this collection is also very symbolic in nature."

The eggs will go to Easter breakfast organized in eateries for the needy.
