A semi- marathon organized by the Foundation Against Leukemia, named after Agata Mroz-Olszewska, the late Polish volleyball star who died as a result of the illness,  is being staged in Warsaw.

Held under the motto ‘Running for marrow’ it is to raise awareness to the low number of bone marrow donors in Poland. Current records show some 40 thousand volunteers registered. By comparison, in neighboring Germany the figure stands at almost 3 million.

Lists of potential donors are compiled by private foundations, which have to cover considerable expenses of testing the volunteers. That is why the organizers of the Warsaw semi-marathon also want to campaign for greater financial support for the organizations, among them the Foundation Against Leukemia.
