Five Polish seamen, abducted by Somali pirates, have contacted their families by radio.

They all said they were fine and their lives were not in danger, informed Foreign Ministry Spokesman Piotr Paszkowski:

Minister Sikorski has spoken on the phone with the Foreign Minister of Norway and asked for a representative of the Polish Embassy in Oslo to be added to their crisis team, so we have a degree of certainty that all the best efforts are taken to lead to the prompt release of the five kidnapped Polish seamen, and give us access to current information on the  progress in negotiations.

The Poles are members of the crew of a Norwegian tanker taken over by pirates on Thursday, 300 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia. Apart from the Poles, the tanker’s crew also includes 19 Filipinos, a Russian, a Lithuanian and a Norwegian captain.

So far the demands of the pirates are not known.
