• Lech Wałęsa threatens to leave Poland
  • 30.03.2009

Lech Wałęsa, the Solidarity legend, announced on his blog that he would refuse to participate in any commemorative events, give back his medals and distinctions and even leave Poland, in protest against a biographical publication which attempts to revise parts of his life history.

Mr.Wałęsa called the book “barbarian libel” and said that he intended to go through with his warnings if the attacks on him continued.

He also expressed his impatience with a situation in which court rulings that cleared him of alleged collaboration with communist-era security services, were being ignored.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Lech Wałęsa remained a “national treasure” in spite of the things that were being said about him.
