• City council meets to sound of death march
  • 30.03.2009

Musicians of the Philharmonic in the city of Częstochowa arrived at a session of the city council to play a death march, hoping in this way to draw the attention to the sad financial condition of the Philharmonic.

Head of the Solidarność union at the Philharmonic, Andrzej Pisarski said that the orchestra faced artistic collapse if the situation continued:

This can’t go on. Young musicians are earning wages which are quite funny. Everyone knows how much you need to work to become a musician!

The demonstration met with understanding from councillors, who promised to help in spite of the city’s difficulties with funds.
