One third of food produced in Poland is likely to go to waste while over 2.5 million Poles suffer from poverty and undernourishment. In order to prevent such a situation the Polish Food Banks have started a nationwide campaign under the banner: “Don’t waste food. Get rid of old habits”. According to Marek Borowski, the chairman of the Federation of Polish Food Banks, Poles should use what was produced in a sensible way because by wasting food they waste its packaging as well as energy and work effort put for its production. A special website called www.niemarnuje.pl has been launched by the Food Banks with information on storing food and recipes for leftover dishes.
